Rich Davie discusses and recaps the TUF 20 Episode 11 show featuring the final two quarterfinal fights between Carla Esparza vs. Tecia Torres and Joanne Calderwood vs. Rose Namajunas...

It's been quite sometime since we've seen Gina Carano in an MMA fight... the last time was when Gina and Cris Justino were the main event for the Strikeforce - Carano vs. Cyborg card back on August 15, 2009.
After that match-up, Gina decided to pursue the options that were opening up for her in the entertainment industry... specifically, the movie industry.
Gina Carano has been out promoting her latest film "In The Blood" which is to be released today, and was on "The Arsenio Hall Show" last night to do the same.
Gina not only spoke about and promoted her lasted film, but when asked about fighting in the UFC again, she stated that she is currently "kinda considering" the possibility.
Gina also stated that she will be meeting with UFC president Dana White to discuss her future with the promotion sometime next week.
When asked about fighting, she had this to say :
Quote :
Gina Carano :
I love it... It's something I can do that makes everything else disappear. I dream about it. I just didn't know if I was ever going to get placed with the opportunity to make a comeback. So I'm either going to do it now or retire and say, I'm never going to do it. So now is the moment.
From the sound of things, it looks like we'll be seeing Gina Carano in the Octagon sooner rather than later !
The question is...
Will a 145 lb women's division be added to the UFC roster... or will Gina have to drop to what will probably be a bit of a challenge for her since she has had "issues" in the past making weight at 145... not to mention that it'll be over 5 years since she's been in the cage against a professional MMA opponent looking to hurt her in order to get the win.
Personally... I'd love to see Gina fighting in the UFC, but I'm of the opinion that she first needs to find the fighting weight that she's truly comfortable at.
If she can make 135, fight twice at that weight, and win, then the match-up against Rousey for the title makes sense... but if 145 is where she needs to be, then not even a catchweight bout with Rousey makes sense in my opinion.
What do you all think ?

This is starting to sound more and more that it's likely to happen.

Quote from DFW (Via Dave Doyle's Twitter feed,) "Gina has a Hollywood lawyer. That's hard to deal with. But we've been through worse."

I hope they can come to terms... and that Gina can effectively cut to 135.
I'd love to see Gina in the UFC... I hated the fact that she was finished by Justino, and a very "burly" looking Cyborg at that.

The latest news on Gina signing with the UFC from what I've read...
DFW and Lorenzo want to sign Gina ASAP, and want to have her fight on the December 6 card... but I saw Ariel Helwani post a comment on Twitter yesterday that suggested getting Gina to fight on the December 6 card probably won't be a reality due to another movie that Gina is going to be appearing in and starting production at or around that same time.

Strange admission time - I'm starting to develop a strange crush on Cyborg

they won't sign cyborg in fear her winning against Rousey i think, Carano being signed and titleshot, makes no sense at all. I know they give title fights to fighters coming off a lost, but a lost and 5 years out of fighting, she has to earn that shot. Especially with the WMMA growing and growing with more female fighters. I wonder if Dominick Cruz gets a shot at the title when he comes back lol

You have a couple of good points there.
The shot at the title for Carano makes no sense, and Cruz probably won't get a title shot when he makes his return.

To me, it just doesn't make any sense for Gina to step right into a title fight with a champion as dominant as Rousey.
If I were Gina, I'd want at least one - and really, two would be better - "tune-up" fights, before I got in the ring with Ronda.

I pretty much agree with all 3 of you guys, and I believe I mentioned this on the last MMA Live Chat Show that Damon, Chuck and I did.
BTW... I show have that show published today, probably late afternoon some time.

White has already said that he might sign Cyborg and that he'd love to sign Gina, but White has also said in the recent past that if he signs Cyborg she'll have to take a couple of fights at 135 before getting a shot at Rousey.
Why doesn't the same set of circumstances apply to Gina Carano?

I'm pretty sure that he set those restrictions for Cyborg in order to keep her in the UFC long enough to have her tested multiple times for PED's (which she's tested positive for, in the past) and make sure she's clean, before she fights Ronda.

I think they're on the verge of signing Carano, and I believe Cyborg signing with the UFC is right around the corner, but I don't think there's talk about Cyborg getting a shot at Rousey right away.
Interesting how things work in the UFC, it seems like there's no specific set of rules that apply across the board.

I'll just support what's already been said, and reinforce what seems to be "the best guess" as to what's happening with Gina Carano.
Looking at this comment again, it struck a memory about this point... I believe on UFC Tonight a little while back, comments were being made that Cruz will have to take 1 fight before getting a shot at potentially re-capturing the belt...
There's rumor goin' 'round that Carano has already signed, but she can't fight Rousey due to her role in a movie that's supposed to start production in December, and will fight Liz Carmouche instead...
and DFW has seemed to have softened his stance on Justino signing with the UFC, so he's probably also considering the Rousey vs. Justino match-up since the "big money" fight with Carano doesn't look likely to happen before the end of the year.
