Chael Sonnen Announces His Retirement From MMA

After thanking friends, fans, and those close to him, Chael Sonnen just announced on "UFC Tonight" that he is officially retiring from MMA.

This had to be expected since immediately after the NSAC and the UFC banned TRT, Chael intimated that he would likely retire from MMA... and that fact compounded by the news that Chael failed a random drug test, kinda put the final nail in the coffin for his time in the Octagon as an MMA fighter.

I'm sure his brand of unparalleled trash-talking is going to be missed, and will not likely have any contender able to fill his shoes in that regard.

I suspected this would be how things turned out for the American Gangster when the announcement was made back in February of 2014, and we've mentioned this on a few shows.

Thanks for the memories in the WEC cage and the UFC Octagon Chael... you've created a new dimension regarding entertainment in MMA with your intelligent brand of trash-talk that many have tried to imitate, but no one will ever come close to.

It doesn't come as a great surprise, but it nonetheless is a bit of a downer. The upside is, he's proven himself good enough on the microphone that I'm sure he'll be around for quite awhile in that capacity.

Definitely... he'll always have a home in the UFC in some capacity.

He will be fine. I see him playing a bigger role now.

I've seen a couple of tweets today that claim Chael Sonnen will be fighting Andre Galvao as the headliner for Metamoris 4 on August 9th... so maybe he hasn't retired ?

Seen that too. I guess he still wants to fight, but stay on the TRT.
