| By: Antonio Cooper@AntonioCooper88June 14, 2014As we all know, Chael Sonnen is now retired from competitive Mixed martial Arts, which means the gift of post-fight interviews will never be the same since the man who re-revolutionized the art is no longer able to participate. But this is not about his ability to dazzle the audience with his all-too familiar catchphrases but to wonder what legacy he's leaving behind as a competitor. Known as the prolific talker, as a competitor it's more than fair to recognize that he's backed up more than his fair share of the smack he talked. Comprising a record with well over 40 fights, its more than a fair assessment that "The American gangster" developed a reputation for being a fighter that opponents dreaded having across from them inside the octagon. Whether it was his now trademark thrashing of Anderson Silva or his systematic double-leg takedown that would make competitors such as Nate Marquart break before our very eyes, it's easy to recognize that Sonnen has without question left behind a legacy, but what legacy is the question we must answer. | |

| I think his UFC legacy will be his fight hyping. The first Silva fight he tested positive for like 14 times the allotted testosterone levels. So that fight is marred. He was a great wrestler, but never really an above average fighter. He was prone to the sub.
He did always come to fight, and that is why I liked him. To take on Jones was crazy, if not stupid, but he did it. | |

| He'll be remembered as the guy who wasn't afraid to step up and fight anybody at anytime... and although he won't be remembered as the best fighter with the best UFC record, he does have some notable names in his win column while in the UFC.
In his 2nd stint in the UFC, he defeated Mauricio Rua, Michael Bisping, Brian Stann, Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami, and Dan Miller... and he'll be remembered as the man who took it to Anderson Silva for 4 1/2 rounds, convincingly dominating him, and nearly shocking the MMA world.
...and he'll also be remembered as the man who brought the new brand of trash-talk to the UFC that so many try to imitate, but nobody can duplicate.

| I have deep respect for Chael, and his accomplishments in the ring - but when I read the headline, the first thought that ran through my head was "To the casual fan, he'll be remembered as the man who ALMOST beat Anderson Silva, the unbeatable." | |
