By Rich Davie@RichDavieFebruary 25, 2014There has been quite a bit of chatter in the world of MMA since the UFC 170: Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann stoppage occurred on Saturday February 22, 2014, and much of the ire has been directed towards Herb Dean and his decision to stop the bout when he did.
I can understand both sides of the argument, as I initially thought the stoppage was a bit premature as well.
In real-time I can understand why it looked like an early stoppage to those who argue that side of the debate, because again I initially thought the stoppage was a bit premature... but looking at the replay a few times, I can see the argument for Herb Dean stopping the action when he did.
Was the stoppage a tad bit premature and could the fight have continued a bit longer... sure that argument can be made and is valid, but even if the fight was allowed to continue for a few more seconds or punches the outcome more than likely wouldn't have been any different.
Sara McMann was hurt, and not likely able to continue fighting to her full potential... the TKO would only have come in another 20 or 30 seconds or so had the fight been allowed to commence from the point where McMann fell to the mat on her knees in my opinion.
I think Herb Dean made the right call... how 'bout you ?
